Five

Elle is officially 5. She has been looking forward to this day for quite some time, and it has finally arrived. How happy she was this morning when she awoke to find that she is finally the coveted number 5. Many of her friends have been this number for quite some time, so she has been excited for it to finally be her turn—it is so hard to wait when one is turning 5.

And the number 5 came in with lots of fun and excitement. Elle got to wake up in the morning and immediately open all of her presents (who wants to wait?). She got everything she wanted and more. She was genuinely excited and surprised with all of her gifts. After all of the presents were unwrapped and inspected, she decided to watch her new movie, Tangled. But first she requested a breakfast of a unicorn shaped pancake. Not too hard—yea right. I did my best to fulfill this birthday wish, but let’s just say it was not picture worthy. Once the breakfast was consumed, she immediately watched her movie. Tangled is one of her favorite movies, and she was excited to have her very own copy. She watched the entire movie on her new horse (Hudson sat on his horse and watched about two seconds; but I couldn’t resist snapping a picture of the two of them on their horses). After the movie, a unicorn shaped sandwich for lunch (also not picture worthy), and a nap—for Hudson; 5-year-olds do not take naps—we took a trip to grab balloons before the pink horse birthday party (a must for a 5-year-old).

Elle waited patiently—according to her, not to me—for all of her friends to arrive at her pink horse party. I think she only asked me every two minutes for an entire hour when her friends were going to come. And when they FINALLY arrived, Elle could not contain her excitement. The kids pretty much went crazy for the entire two hours. They danced, played, ate cake and ice cream, jumped, broke a piƱata and ate candy for the entire two hours. They never stopped for the duration of the entire party. They really had so much fun. I was glad that she had such a good time with her friends on her birthday.

After the party we had a dinner of homemade chicken noodle soup (Elle’s favorite meal), bread and lemonade. No unicorns for dinner.

Then to end her magnificent 5th birthday, Elle made a birthday wish and let a balloon go into the sky. She loved doing this. She sweetly closed her eyes, made a wish and let her balloon float up in the sky. She watched it until it was too far away to see anymore.

Elle truly had a wonderful day turning 5. She kept telling me over and over again that it was the best birthday ever. I’m so glad her birthday turned out to be everything she hoped and wished it to be. Happy 5 Elle.

Ashley!

1. Happy 5th birthday to your sweet Elle. I still remember when you and Johnny brought her to our duplex in north Boise-- I think she was only a few months old. Time has flown by!
2. I love you bangs/ new hair color. So cute!
3. You deserve a best mom award for being so wonderful to your kids. I love that you made her unicorn pancakes and a sandwich. Too bad we can't see them. :)
