Family Home Evening—Apples

Our theme for family home evening this week was: apples (not a hard one to guess. Since I had already made apple cupcakes, I thought I would just work with what I had). For the lesson we learned that there are over one thousand different kinds of apples. And each variety has its own flavor, texture and look. We then learned how we can appreciate the different qualities of each apple for different reasons. We then compared apples to people. We decided that there are many varieties of people, and we can appreciate the different qualities and attributes of everyone we meet—especially in the forthcoming school year as Elle meets lots of new kids and teachers.

We then made an apple tree and made an apple for each member of our family. We then had to go around the circle and say a quality or attribute we admired of each person (Elle did a great job at this; Hudson can’t really talk, which equaled no participation). After that, we made apple trees out of Hudson and Elle’s arms and hands. It was a lot of fun.

And lastly, we ate the delicious apple cupcakes, which definitely had the right flavor, texture and look. Elle had no problem stating what qualities she liked about this particular type of apple. All in all, we had a lot of fun learning about apples.
