I was a little nervous for swimming lessons today, because all last night Elle kept asking—better yet, begging—me to not make her do swimming lessons today. I smiled and said we’ll see, all the while knowing she was going to go. I was hoping in the morning she would be a little more excited, and possibly ready to go. However, my hopes were dashed this morning, because the second she woke up, she started in on begging and pleading with me to not make her swim. I, of course, was not persuaded, and proceeded to make her get ready for her lesson. But the pestering never stopped. Even on the car ride over, she kept asking me to turn the car around and go home. Like that was going to happen. And once we were at the pool, her attitude did not change. She kept asking me and asking me to not make her swim. At this point, I was not sure how her lesson was going to go. I had major doubts. But to my surprise, as well as Elle’s, her teacher told them they were going to wear goggles and hunt for treasure today. Elle was ecstatic, and loved wearing the goggles. From the moment the goggles were on, she quit asking me to not make her swim. She put her head beneath the water; she jumped off the side; and she did everything her teacher asked her to do. She even swam without her barbell—something I did not think she would do. And she did all this, because of a little orange pair of goggles. Who knew?
The onlooker. He wishes he could participate.
