What do Fireman and soldiers have in common? They are both American heroes.
There are many heroes in America, and Elle had the opportunity to meet and listen to a few in our community. Barnes and Noble held their monthly party, and this month’s was entitled, Great American Heroes. Elle had the chance to meet some fireman from the Boise Fire Department, and go inside their fire truck. She also got to meet some soldiers from the National Guard. They let her sit in two of their Humvees—very cool.
After meeting some real-life heroes, Elle got to then color pictures, make bookmarks, create her own dog tag, have snacks, and receive a few prizes. Elle loved every minute of the party. Everywhere she turned there were things to delight and entertain. She really had so much fun learning and participating in the bookstore’s attempt to teach about modern-day heroes.
And it is never a party to Elle if she cannot dress-up. This month she chose to be a flag—hence the blue face. She loved her costume, and I loved seeing her patriotism bloom.
Lastly, Elle had the fun opportunity of being on TV. Boise’s local news station covered the whole event, and Elle was on the news at five—blue face and all. We recorded it, and she has watched herself on TV several times. A very fun way to end our Great American Hero party.
