Surprises at the Zoo

While attending the zoo on Tuesday, the zoo gave us a few surprises, and Elle gave them one, too. Elle’s surprise was for the lions. She decided to wear her new lion mask to their exhibit. She thought it would be funny to confuse the lions by having them see a lion outside of their cage. However, the lions slept the entire time we viewed them, so they never saw their surprise. But, when we went to the Simplot Education Center, we were fully aware of our surprises.

When we first walked in the center, we almost stepped on a snake. Well, we thought it was a snake, but come to find out, it was a legless lizard. Elle loved it. She could not quit petting it. Seeing how impressed we were, the zoo worker asked us if we would like to view some insects. He then took out a Thorny Devil Walkingstick. Kind of gross. Elle absolutely refused to touch it. It was a little creepy. Since the Thorny Devil was not such a hit, the zoo worker then took out a snake. Elle liked this much better than the Walkingstick. But her favorite was still the legless lizard. She just followed it around the room. Who knew there was such a thing as a legless lizard? And who knew my daughter would love it? Our last surprise was seeing the baby goslings. They were very cute, and not at all a part of the zoo. Just a neat sideshow.

Seeing these different “surprises,” brought a whole new dimension to the zoo. Never before have we had the opportunity to touch reptiles or insects while attending the zoo. It was a wonderful experience, in which we were more than happy to participate in.
