Tomorrow marks a monumental moment in Elle’s life—tomorrow is her first day of school. Although she is only going for two hours, I am a little sad. I’m not sure when she grew up. And why oh why did I let her? I don’t think I ever gave her permission. In fact, I know I never gave her permission. I want her to stay my little girl. I want her to stay home. I don’t want her to grow up. But I will never get my wish—she will grow up. And tomorrow is the first step in that direction.
Since I cannot keep her from growing up, I decided to do all I could to make her first day extra special. I made apple cupcakes; I made her a crown; I made her a placemat; and there is a shiny new apple for breakfast. I made each of these items tonight—except the apple; that I bought—so I can’t wait to see her face in the morning. I hope she enjoys it as much as I enjoyed making and buying them for her. So, even though she is going to grow up, at least she can do it in style.
