Swimming is a fun and wet way to play and cool off. Our kids are big fans, and they insist on doing it at least once a week (Elle wishes she could live at the swimming pool, because then she would never have to leave, and she could swim and go down water slides all day and all night. Oh, to be a kid). But since Elle cannot live at the pool, she and Hudson have to be content with our weekly swim. But I don’t think they can complain, because each week we have so much fun.

Books
Elle LOVES to read. She can read and look at books all day and every night. I go in her room each night and remove book after book from her bed. In fact, she has been known to wake up in the middle of the night just to take a few quick peeks at her favorite books. Silly girl. And the other night she fell asleep in the middle of reading one of her beloved books. It was so sweet; I just had to snap a quick picture. I really do love how much she loves her books.

Trouble
Hudson has been into more trouble than usual this week—if that is at all possible. I am amazed everyday at where his curiosity takes him. I sometimes think that I have seen it all, but then Hudson informs me that I haven’t, by getting into some new form of trouble.
This week he first informed me that I have not seen it all, by stabbing his eyelid with a knife. I could not believe he managed to get a hold of a knife, and that he then stabbed himself with it. Why? It is the question I find myself asking on a daily basis. But I was greatly relieved that he did not stab his actual eye with the kitchen knife. After I confiscated the weapon, I had to try to stop the bleeding from his new cut. And the funny thing is, he never cried about the incident once. He kept rubbing his eye, but he never cried. He is such a silly, tough boy.
Hudson next informed me that I have not seen it all, by breaking my DVD player. One would think that since he enjoys his Baby Einstein DVD’s, that he would not break the device that plays these beloved movies. One would think. But Hudson did not seem to think of that at all as he proceeded to ruin the DVD player. Luckily, Johnny was able to fix it later—though it does not work the same—but I still cannot believe that he broke the DVD player.
Hudson is my sweet, little boy whom I love very much, but I am constantly amazed at what he can do in a matter of seconds. I know the horror stories have just begun, but I also know I will never get used to them.

Family Home Evening—Anchor
Our theme for family home evening this week was: anchor. For our lesson we talked about how an anchor keeps a boat where it should be. Without an anchor, a boat can drift away, get destroyed or become lost. We learned that we too need an anchor: the prophet. When we follow the prophet and do what he says, we are anchored. But when we do not heed his words, we can drift away from what we know is right and become lost. Basically, we learned to become anchored through the words of our prophet. After the lesson we made and colored our own anchors (a fun craft for all ages). And after the craft, Hudson and Elle ate anchor cupcakes (I was told—in no uncertain terms—by Elle, that I needed to do more cupcakes for dessert in family home evening, because some of my other desserts are gross). So, I made cupcakes tonight, and I got the approval from Elle. And family home evening was a success.

Naughty Boy
Hudson is a very sneaky and naughty boy (I mean this in a very lovingly motherly way). I am constantly catching Hudson sneaking off into things he knows very well he should not be in (these are specific situations he has been told not to do over and over again). But since he is so curious and mischievous, he tends to get into these situations anyway.
Today was one of those mischievous, sneaky and naughty days. While I was busy getting things back in order after our trip, Hudson was busy sneaking off. After a small moment of not hearing him, I went upstairs to find this:
He was standing in the bathroom applying my mascara. I, of course, instantly laughed, and so did he. I could not believe that he had moved the stool, opened my mascara and put it all over his face. I told him—in a not-so-convincing voice—that Mommy’s make-up is a no-no. But I’m pretty sure my reprimand went unheeded. I couldn’t even muster up a serious voice. It was too funny. How can one be serious when one’s son has black mascara all over his face? I know I can’t. Hudson is such a silly boy. I just love him

No More Diapers
Hudson has so generously lately been bestowing his poopy diapers right to my hands. That’s right, the second the kid poops, he takes off his diaper and hands it to me. The only problem with this is, is that his bum is usually quite dirty, and he is none to careful while carrying the soiled diaper. So, I am basically having to search and find his spilled waste around the house (GROSS!!). And it doesn’t stop there. He doesn’t just take his diaper off if he has gone poop. I have also found him taking the diaper off and hiding it in random places (as if hiding it will keep me from putting one on him). Today I found his diaper stashed beneath the TV. Very sneaky Hudson.
I think it is definitely time to start potty training Hudson. He is obviously very aware of what he is doing down there. He is also obviously very sick of diapers (me too), so I think it is time to start the dreaded potty training. Boy am I in for a lot of work. But I am very sick of him taking matters into his own hands. I am the parent; I will be taken matters into my own hands.
