A Birthday Surprise

The kids and I—mostly me—decided that it would be fun to give my mom a surprise visit for her 50th birthday. Somehow we were able to keep it a secret, and my mom was completely taken by surprise when we showed up at her house last Thursday night. She was in complete shock, and kept telling us that it was her favorite birthday surprise yet. We also came bearing ice cream cake and presents, which made our surprise even better.

Some of the favorite things to do during our surprise visit were: driving the backhoe (this was mostly Hudson. He could have ridden around with my dad all day); playing with the dog (both Elle and Hudson loved this); sewing (Elle loved having my mom sew her new things); riding horses (only Elle was able to do this, because Hudson was sleeping); and, of course, eating cake (everyone loves to eat cake).

I’m certainly glad we were able to surprise my mom for her birthday. It ended up being a fun weekend for everyone.
