One Full Day

We like to take advantage of everything fun and Christmasy (not a word; but so fitting) and free. So much so, that we completely exhaust ourselves. But exhaustion has never—and will never—stop us from having fun. Exhaustion is never an excuse for missing out on a good time.

We started our day out by attending the Christmas parade in Meridian. It was snowing, and very cold, but that did not stop us. We trudged through the snow and sludge with the best of them, and watched the festivities of the parade. My toes protested the entire time (I was sure frostbite was on the way), but letting Elle hug Rudolf, and see a real reindeer was worth every tingly pain. Thankfully the parade was not too long, and my toes survived a nearly—not really—fatal frostbite encounter.

After the parade, we took ourselves to the warm indoors and attended the Boise Public Library puppet show. This show was about a little tiger that was waiting for Santa, and it was hilarious. Elle laughed the entire time. She found it very entertaining and comical. She couldn’t quit talking about different parts of the show. But the real highlight—and surprise—of the puppet show was when Santa came to visit all the kids in attendance. He brought a bag full of candy canes, and Elle was ecstatic—she loves Santa and she LOVES candy canes.

Once the puppet show was over, we again took ourselves outside and attended Claus and Paws at the zoo. Elle loved seeing Santa, and seeing all of the animals. Hudson did not like Santa at all, and eyed him the entire time. He would not let me put him down, and he would not let Santa out of his sight—one always has to keep one’s eye on whatever is scary. Poor Santa, he was not well loved by Hudson.

And since we didn’t have enough of the cold, we went and got milkshakes after the zoo. Everyone, including Hudson, loved these sugary delights. Yum!

So now we are all exhausted; but our spirits are still high. Cramming every fun activity we could find made for a memorable, fun and delightful day.

My favorite Elle sayings of the day were:

• I had told Elle that I was so in love with books, and she looked at me and
asked, “Do you love them so much that you would want to marry one?”

• When we were at the zoo there was a not-so-pleasant smell, and when Elle
smelled the foul odor she said, “Ewww, it smells like lizard poop!”
