Hudson has had a haircut cut before—several times—but he has never had a REAL haircut. I have decided that my haircuts do not count as haircuts, because they are so poorly done. The last time I gave the poor kid a haircut, it looked terrible. And then Johnny tried to fix it, and it looked even worse (sorry honey, but it’s true). So we, meaning Johnny and I, decided that it was high-time for Hudson to get a REAL first haircut.
Lucky for us, Jae Cee cuts hair; so Hudson got to have his aunt give him his first haircut. I was not at all sure how he would do—one never knows with a one-year-old—so I went with no expectations. But I needn’t have worried, because Hudson did great. He sat in the chair the entire time, and never once complained. He seemed thoroughly confused with the process as a whole, but he never let out one protest. He was very good.
And I have to say that I am very pleased with Hudson’s REAL first haircut. It looks so good (much better than what Johnny and I attempted). It is even, and it suits him so well. I am very pleased.
Also, my children decided that sweeping up the cut hair was a fun thing to do. They both just had to have a chance to sweep up the hair-covered floor. Nothing like a little child labor.

First REAL Haircut

Feeling Wicked
I had the opportunity to once again watch the Broadway production of Wicked; and it was just as amazing as the first time. I love, love, love this Broadway show. It is phenomenal. Everything about it is incredible—the music, the characters, the story. I love it. But mostly I love having a girls night out with friends and family (dinner and Broadway is always a winner).

The Story of the Purple Gloves
Elle woke up one morning and wanted to dress up as some animal or other, and so she insisted she needed gloves. After some debate, I finally agreed to get out our winter gear, and allow her to pick out some gloves. Hudson saw what Elle was doing, and immediately decided that he too needed to pick a pair out. So he sifted through our array of gloves, and chose some pretty purple ones--which, by the way, are definitely not a Johnny approved color for boys. But he was happy, so I thought nothing of it. But when it was time to leave and run our errands for the day, I thought a lot about those purple gloves. For you see, when I tried to take them off, so we could get into the car, he refused. I decided not to fight him on it, and instead just buckled him in. But when we went to do our first errand, he still refused to take them off. I was quite embarrassed as I walked around and talked to people with my son wearing purple gloves. I felt like I needed to explain it to everyone—and I did. And it wasn’t just because they were purple, it was also because of the fact that it was hot outside, and my son was wearing purple gloves that should be worn on his sister in the winter. But even still, Hudson refused to take his gloves off for the entire time we ran errands; and he even wore them while he ate his ice cream cone (our usual Wednesday treat).
But the story of the purple gloves does not end there; for when we got home, Hudson decided those purple gloves needed to stay on his hands while he took a nap. And they did.
The end.

The Dentist's Chair
I had to take Elle in for a routine cleaning at the dentist, and Hudson was fascinated with everything he saw. He wanted to see and do everything Elle was doing (he has not yet figured out that children are not supposed to like the dentist; but I have no doubt he will figure that out as soon as he has to actually go in for a cleaning). He was quite disappointed when he found out he had to sit on my lap for the duration of the visit—more like he screamed and fussed—so when the hygienist left for a spell, I let Hudson sit in the chair with Elle. He thought he was pretty cool sitting there with his sister.

Family Home Evening—Water
Family home evening at our house can often be a little rushed and not well thought out (I know, not good). So I have decided to do a much better job—anything will be an improvement from what we have done before. I have decided to have a new theme each week; and with each theme I will choose a lesson, a craft and a treat. I am hoping that my themes will motivate and inspire me to do much more creative and fun family home evenings.
Our theme this week for Family Home Evening was water. Johnny gave a lesson about the sacrament (extra emphasis on the blessing for the water), Elle made an elephant watering can (milk carton), and our snack was well…water (super easy—just turn on the kitchen faucet). This week’s theme was a hit, and I am excited to think of a theme, craft and lesson for next week. I know my snack will have to be a little more elaborate than water, but it will still be fun.
I am hoping that every time Elle uses her milk carton watering can, she will think of the sacrament and the sacrifice our Savior has made for her and all of us.

A Photography Session with Sparks
I uploaded pictures from my camera onto my laptop, and I was presented with a surprise: pictures taken by Elle. Johnny and I laughed hysterically as we went through picture after picture of Elle’s photography session. Her favorite unicorn, Sparks, was the subject of every picture. Thankfully Sparks was a good sport, and happily posed for the different pictures taken all around our house.
I really enjoyed looking at the pictures Elle worked so hard to take—especially the picture of Sparks in the window. Very funny.

Poodle Dreams
The other night I went to check on Elle in bed, and this is what I found.
I guess she decided to be a poodle for bed. I found it very funny. Who thinks of these things? Only Elle.
