Opportunity to Skate

Johnny had a Young Men event in McCall on Saturday; therefore, I had the opportunity to take/participate in Elle’s ice skating lessons. I was not sure, prior to the lesson, as to whether or not it was good opportunity; but after our half hour of skating, I found it to be a very good opportunity. I have not ice skated in years, and I was not sure how I would be on the ice. I was pretty sure that I could skate by myself, but helping a three-year-old, who is just learning to ice skate, was a different story. I was afraid that the second I stepped on the ice, and tried to help Elle up, I would fall. However, luckily, I was wrong. I will admit that when we first got on the ice, I was a little wobbly, but after a few minutes of unsteady skating, I got my bearings. And once that happened, I was able to quit worrying and have a fun time with Elle. We really did have a good time skating together. She is getting so good at skating by herself. She is learning to hop, skate fishes, march, dip, spin, and side-step. She is doing so well—maybe better than her mother—and loving every minute of it. I am quite surprised at how much she has learned in such a short time, and I am glad that I had the opportunity to skate with her. Seeing as how Johnny is heading back to McCall next Saturday, it looks like I will have another opportunity to ice skate with Elle.

On a side note, Elle wore her new purple sunglasses for the entire duration of the lesson. I kept asking her if she wanted to take them off—they seemed a little dark to be used indoors on a skating rink—but she kept telling me no. She was too excited about finally having her own purple sunglasses. I couldn’t help but laugh at her persistence, as did other parents and coaches participating in the class. But I have to admit, she did look cute skating in her purple sunglasses.
