Coming April 2013

Hudson Turns 3

My sweet little boy is now 3 years old. It is hard to believe how big and grownup he has become. He is a very sweet, caring, cuddly, thoughtful, happy, upbeat, positive, energetic, smiley, rough and tough boy. I love spending time with him, and he makes my days so much fun. He is such a sweet birthday boy.

But poor Hudson has been waiting for his birthday for quite some time. Ever since Elle’s birthday to be exact. On the day of Elle’s birthday, Hudson looked at me with sad little eyes, and asked, “Is it almost my birthday?” I sadly had to tell him that it was not. And ever since then, he has asked me many, many, many times, “Is it almost my birthday?” Thankfully we made it all those months, and as September approached, I could finally tell him, “Hudson, it is almost your birthday!” He was very excited, and could not wait for the ice cream and presents. He was very patient for his birthday, and since he was, I was more than happy to oblige all his birthday requests. Luckily, these requests were simple and easy. He really only wanted two things: a hummer cake, and presents. And I gave him both. He loved it.

Hudson really did have a wonderful birthday. He loves being three. And he loves birthdays. And thankfully, he has stopped asking me, “Is it almost my birthday?” But I have a feeling that around Elle’s birthday I will be revisited with that question once again.

Still Catching Up

I still have a lot of catching up to do on this blog. I would like to say that I am all caught up, but that is not the case. I suppose it is good that I have so many things to blog about, but when I am so far behind, it is hard for me to see the good. But alas, here I am, still catching up.

The first exciting thing that we did in September was attend the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic. Elle and Hudson love watching all of the colorful hot air balloons launch into the sky. Attending this event has become an annual occurrence for us. We really enjoy it (everything that is, except the getting up way too early. That part is not so enjoyable). Elle and Hudson also got the opportunity to ride in a hot air balloon. They really liked this. And even though we had to wait in line forever, it was worth those few minutes that they got to float in the sky.

I’d also like to point out one of Hudson’s favorite new pastimes: eating the entire bottle of red sprinkles. And no he doesn’t ask nor tell me. He simply waits until I am not in the room, then climbs on top of the garbage and reaches to a high self on the pantry. Once he retrieves the sugary confection, he helps himself to the entire bottle. And to make me feel better, he simply says, “It’s okay Mommy. It’s yummy.”

In September, we also had the chance to go to the Idaho Discovery Center. It was a lot of fun. Elle and Hudson ran around like crazy, and discovered everything they could. But I think the highlight—like always—was the mini grocery store. Both of them loved pretending to shop and buy their groceries. They could have spent most, if not all, of their time in that one spot.

We also got to go to the Idaho Aquarium this month. Both kids loved this excursion. They loved petting the sharks and stingrays. They loved feeding the birds (well, a little; they did not love how the birds practically attacked them in order to get the food). They loved the octopus and seahorses. They loved the jellyfish. And they loved running around like crazy while their mom repeatedly asked them to stop.

And lastly, we snuck in a trip to the nature center. (Elle and Hudson love the owls.)

It has been a fun month so far. But unfortunately, I am still catching up.

Catching Up

Since my last post, way back in August, we have been up to quite a bit. The first item of business is to point out that Hudson had his first bee sting. This was quite the upsetting situation for poor Hudson. I think he was surprised to find out that this small insect could actually make his arm hurt that much. I think he will be more careful around bees from now on. But even with the pain, he was still my upbeat little boy. He kept telling me over and over again, “I’m ok. I’m ok.” And he was right; he was ok.

After the bee sting incident, we had happier times with a trip to Lagoon. The kids LOVED going there. They thought the rides, the junk food, and the staying up way past there bedtime were the perfect ingredients for a fun trip. I don’t think they stopped—except for Hudson’s brief nap at the park—from the moment we got there. They ran and played until the park closed. It was so much fun. Even if the DVD player didn’t work in the car, and Hudson woke up at 5:30—hence the nap—and Elle maybe wanted to go on the rollercoaster a few too many times. It was still fun, and we loved our trip.

Hudson also got to go on a motorcycle ride with his dad. He thought this was pretty awesome. Hudson has always loved motorcycles, and whenever he gets the chance to ride on one, he is in heaven. He could have ridden all day. If only his dad wanted to ride all day too.

Elle and Hudson have started to learn yoga. It is pretty cute seeing them do the different poses together. Elle is much more dedicated than Hudson though. He only makes it through a few poses before he is off to drive cars and interrupt his sister’s yoga session (much to her dismay).

We also made it to the fair this summer, where we watched sharks, fed butterflies, ate a delicious caramel apple, looked at booths, saw Tow Mater and viewed different shows. It was fun, and the kids loved it.

Elle had her first day of school. It is hard for me to believe that she is now in first grade. She is getting so big and grown up. But I am glad to say that she loves first grade. I wasn’t sure how the transition would go from kindergarten to first, but she couldn’t be more happy. She is not at all concerned with the length of the day, and thinks everything is fun. Her school has a great schedule, and Elle never feels like it is too long or boring. She is busy, happy, and enjoying the year. Johnny and I are very proud of her and all that she is accomplishing.

Whew. That just about covers it for August. I guess I am on to September. I definitely have my work cut out for me.
