Easter 2013

Plastic eggs. Easter baskets. Feelings hurt. Candy. Getting dressed up. Going to Church. Getting feelings hurt. Egg hunt. More candy. Visiting Hayden’s grave. That pretty much sums up Easter 2013 for us.

Visiting Hayden’s Grave

This weekend we had our first opportunity to visit Hayden’s grave. It was a sad but sweet moment for us. We have been waiting for his burial for quite some time. We chose to have Hayden buried by St. Luke’s in the Memorial Garden. It is also often referred to as the Butterfly Garden. It is a special place reserved for babies 24 weeks gestation or less, that were born with no signs of life at birth. Johnny and I felt it was a very special place, and loved the idea of having Hayden buried there. However, one of the downfalls of doing so was that they only perform the burials quarterly, and we unfortunately had just missed the December one. But despite this downfall, we were very pleased to have chosen this place for Hayden.

Elle and Hudson were just as excited as we were to go and visit Hayden. However, I think Hudson was a little confused. When I asked him if he was ready to go see Hayden, he replied: “Are we going to Heaven?” Obviously, he has been listening to us when we tell him that Hayden is in Heaven. But he loved going to the grave and telling his little brother that he loves him. Elle, too, loved visiting the grave. She feels very close to Hayden, since she was able to see him at the hospital. She loved him the instant she saw him, and could not get enough of holding and kissing him. It was very hard to let him go that day in the hospital, and I am so glad that Elle had the opportunity to meet her baby brother. Being at the grave brought all of the feelings and emotions back, but in a good way. We will always miss and love Hayden, but we know we will be with him again someday. He is our special baby, and he will be forever in our hearts.

Hayden truly is a special part of our family. He has brought so much joy and happiness to our home. We may have only known him for a short time, but in that short time he changed our lives forever. Life is different, and will never be the same. I am so glad for the knowledge the gospel gives me. Knowing that Hayden is a part of our family forever brings me such joy and peace. Hayden has helped our family grow and become stronger. He has made each of us better individuals. We all love him dearly, and are so glad that he joined our family. We are extremely lucky and blessed.
